Speech therapy addresses communication, cognitive-communication, voice, and swallowing disorders. Your speech-language pathologist (SLP) will evaluate, diagnose, and treat difficulties in the following areas:
- Speech Production: Articulation, phonology, fluency (e.g., stuttering), and voice disorders
- Language: Receptive (understanding) and expressive (speaking/writing) language difficulties
- Cognition: Attention, memory, problem-solving, reasoning, and executive function impairments.
- Swallowing: Evaluation and treatment of dysphagia to ensure safe and adequate oral intake
- Voice: Treatment of voice disorders related to pitch, loudness, quality, or resonance
- Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC): Use of communication devices or systems for individuals with severe speech/language impairments
- Education and Training: Providing education to patients, families, and caregivers about communication strategies and safe swallowing techniques
